SS 316L is a low-carbon version of SS 316, with molybdenum (2–3%) added for superior resistance to corrosion, especially in chloride or marine environments. Its low carbon content (0.03% max) prevents carbide precipitation during welding, making it ideal for heavy-gauge and welded components.
SS 316L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and offers excellent formability, weldability, and toughness — even at cryogenic temperatures.
