EN8 – Medium Carbon Steel

EN8 is a popular medium carbon steel known for its good strength, high machinability, and wear resistance. It is ideal for applications that require better mechanical properties than mild steel but do not need the high alloy content of tool steels. EN8 can be heat-treated (hardened and tempered) to achieve increased toughness and tensile strength.

This material is not ideal for welding unless special procedures are followed due to its higher carbon content. It is, however, excellent for machining and can be surface hardened to improve wear resistance.
